Voluntary prekindergarten (VPK) is a state program designed to prepare every child in Florida for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success. 

VPK gives each child an opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life with quality programs that include high literacy standards, accountability, appropriate curricula, substantial instruction periods, lower class sizes and qualified instructors.

The VPK mission is to ensure that all children are intellectually, socially, emotionally and physically ready to enter school and ready to learn, fully recognizing the crucial role of parents as their child’s first teacher.

Our A Beka curriculum focuses largely on mastering independent reading while incorporating words that contain two vowels and high-frequency words, enabling them to expand their vocabulary, write and communicate correctly. Reading complete sentences with speed and accuracy, building on a story and answering comprehension questions with self-confidence are just some excellent early skills. The various styles and techniques being administered on a daily basis, do meet the needs of all learners.

Our K4 students love reading phonetically by the use of the A Beka curriculum. We are giving our little students the tools to read thousands of words by the time they complete our K4 class. Most K4 preschoolers will complete 12-20 little readers in our 11 month school year.

At Pride & Joy, we offer morning VPK classes from 8:30am-11:30am, Monday-Friday. Each child enrolled in VPK receives 540 of FREE instructional hours during the school year. This equals 3 hours per day that your child will receive FREE preschool. Our VPK school year begins on Monday August 12, 2024 and ends on Tuesday June 3, 2025. We are required to follow the Boward County Public School calendar and because of this, there will be six days this school year that parents will be required to pay the daily tuition rate if your child attends these days.

Pride & Joy’s school year begins on Monday, August 5. VPK instructional hours begin August 12. Your K4 VPK child can attend the week of August 5-9, 2025 for the following weekly tuition due August 1st:
